JOB SUMMARY:
Serves as an educational specialist and consultant to faculty in implementing and evaluating required academic components and educational objectives of the medical school curriculum. Assists and ensures successful implementation of the development of new educational initiatives that are relevant to medical education. Actively participates in the curriculum by serving on multiple committees and attending conferences. Provides centralized coordination of curriculum to ensure consistency throughout the program.
ACADEMIC CURRICULUM COORDINATOR
WFSUM PA STUDIES, Boone Campus
The Wake Forest PA program within the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, has a rich history of producing highly capable and competent clinicians. We are fortunate to have two campuses in North Carolina (Boone and Winston-Salem). The two-year PA program is divided into didactic/preclinical (1st year) and rotation/clinical education (2nd year). There are on average 88 students in each class with 24 of those on the Boone campus.
The Department of PA Studies (DPAS) is seeking an academic curriculum coordinator who will be located on the Boone campus. The Academic Curriculum Coordinator, in collaboration with the Director of Didactic Education, will oversee all aspects of the 1st year student experience.
The primary duties include:
Integral Support: Collaborating closely with program director, faculty, and students, you will oversee critical operations spanning event management, communications, expense management, course scheduling, and evaluation.
- Collaborate with Director of Didactic Education, Program Director and Course Directors for implementation and coordination of curricular initiatives
- Ensure curriculum and schedules are up-to-date and accurate in Acuity (learning management system)
- Coordinate and negotiate space, supplies, and equipment for curricular activities
Set-up and tear-down for curricular events such as lab practicals, simulations, and assessments - Oversee evaluation activities for preclinical year including but not limited to end-of-unit exams and assessments: scheduling training, managing materials, testing schedules, proctors, collecting data for program evaluation
- Collaborate with Center for Experiential and Applied Learning to obtain standardized patients for all campuses
- Provide data and reports for accreditation team
Leadership Role: This role provides guidance and support to ~ 90 students across two campuses ensuring academic success and growth as well as support to Boone campus
- Liaison with external stakeholders including App State and other community partners. Boone campus representative on committees as designated
- Day to day point of contact for Boone campus specific issues, events, and other responsibilities including but not limited to classroom coverage (as needed), guest & faculty support (copies, parking, building issues, etc.)
Team Collaboration: Beyond overseeing curricular and administrative components, this position supports the entire DPAS team during high-demand periods
- Coordinate and/or participate in events, including but not limited to, orientation, white coat ceremony, inter-professional activities, clinical year prep, hooding and awards ceremony. Occasional overnight or day travel to WS campus may be required during events or high-demand periods.
- Engage with external Boone community stakeholders through other events such as quarterly community engagement, Camp Med, sun safety event.
