Wake Up Watauga: Trauma & Resiliency and Why It Matters To the Business Community

The Watauga Compassionate Community Initiative has long been been the driving force behind educating area residents and businesses about the impact of trauma on our community.

As the organization prepares for it's 4th annual State of the Child event in the spring of 2020, WCCI is keeping the conversation going as they seek to engage more stakeholders in this important work.

The Boone Area Chamber of Commerce will host WCCI as part of our Wake Up Watauga series, Friday, November 15th an Dan'l Boone Inn. The event runs from 7:30-9 AM and free biscuits and coffee are included.

Join Denise Presnell as she discusses key points around trauma and resiliency and their impact our brains, businesses, and communities. She will also share ideas on ways community members can work together to encourage healing and promote stronger, safer environments.

Presnell has served as a school social worker for nearly 25 years and has continuously been active in working to seek resources to help families in Watauga County. She coordinated the inaugural State of the Child Forum in 2017, which brought stakeholders to the table to recognize the prevalence of childhood trauma and work to establish community tools to address the issues.

Through this effort, the Watauga Compassionate Community Initiative was established. WCCI seeks to promote health and resiliency in our community and to effectively prevent, recognize and treat trauma by creating safe, stable, nurturing environments and relationships.
