The Boone Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to present Evergreen Voices, the third annual Watauga Women in Leadership Gala, on Thursday, November 21
from 5:00-8:00pm at the Inn at Crestwood.

Join us for an inspiring evening as we celebrate the strength and resilience of women in the High Country. This year’s panel will feature local women who have thrived in their careers and communities, sharing powerful stories of growth, perseverance, and leadership. Featured guests for the evening's discussion include Faye Cooper, Lisa Cooper, Addison Martin, Courtney Mattar, and Amy Forrester.

Just like evergreens that stay vibrant through every season, these women have persisted through challenges, including the recent impacts of Hurricane Helene. Their stories remind us of the strength and steadfastness required to navigate life’s storms, while continuing to grow and inspire those around them.

By attending, you’ll not only hear about their journeys but also show your support for women’s leadership and empowerment in our community. Your presence helps strengthen the network of women in the High Country, creating opportunities for mentorship, growth, and collaboration for future generations. Help us celebrate women who, like evergreens, remain steadfast and resilient in every season.

The evening's discussion will be hosted by Amy Odom, Director of Business Career Services in the Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University. In this role, she directs the department to cultivate aspiring business leaders by delivering professional, leadership and career development opportunities. Amy is the Women of Walker liaison and a Watauga Women in Leadership committee member.

Featured Guests

Faye & Lisa Cooper, & Addison Martin

Mast General Store

Lisa Cooper, President of the Mast General Store, leads the family business with a deep sense of pride, following in the footsteps of her parents, John and Faye Cooper. When John and Faye reopened the historic Mast Store in Valle Crucis, North Carolina, in 1980, they laid the foundation for a community-centered business. Lisa grew up learning from her parents’ example, especially Faye’s grace and dedication behind the scenes. As Lisa recalls, Faye managed the store’s finances and handled long hours with unwavering commitment, setting a powerful example of resilience and strength that Lisa carries into her own leadership role.

Since becoming president in 2016, Lisa has honored her parents' legacy by thoughtfully expanding the Mast Store brand, with each new location selected to reflect the heart and history of its community. The Mast Store’s authenticity stems from the Cooper family’s dedication to preservation, and Lisa’s experience working in nearly every department has given her a hands-on approach. Her commitment to both the business and community has helped the store thrive, even through challenging times like the pandemic. Alongside Faye, Lisa has played a key role in sustaining the Mast Store as a central, supportive presence in the High Country and beyond, contributing to causes like affordable housing and environmental conservation.

Now, Lisa’s daughter, Addison, has joined the Mast Store team as an assistant in the marketing department, bringing a third generation into the family business. Addison values the chance to work closely with her mother, gaining a newfound appreciation for the family’s dedication to community and business. Together, Lisa, Faye, and Addison embody the legacy of resilience and community-minded leadership that has made the Mast Store a beloved institution. As featured guests at the Watauga Women in Leadership event, they represent not only the past and present of a thriving local business but also an inspiring vision for its future.
