Professional Bio
Jim Hamilton has been Watauga’s County Director for NC State Cooperative Extension since 2010. He holds degrees in forestry & natural resources from Sewanee, Auburn, and NC State and is also an adjunct professor at Appalachian State University. As the lead administrator for the county’s Cooperative Extension program, Jim’s areas of expertise include the Christmas trees industry and agritourism, medicinal herbs and forest farming, and grant-writing to support the county’s farmers and agricultural economy. As a former Peace Corps Volunteer in Paraguay, he also facilitates farm safety outreach with Latino farmworkers. When he’s not at the Ag Services Center on King Street, you can find him at Deer Valley on the tennis or racquetball courts or at Ted Mack watching his kid’s soccer team or App FC.
