Looking to capture the attention of a budding entrepreneurial community, the Scale Up WNC program is featured on Mind Your Business, a weekly radio program produced in partnership between the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce and High Country Radio.
Local entrepreneur Chris Grasinger, of Mountain BizWorks, discusses the application process for the fifth and sixth cohorts of Scale Up WNC. He also touches on the growth shaping and networking that takes place between business owners during the duration of the three-month program.
“A lot can happen in a small business during the time these entrepreneurs are coming in and grinding through whittling down and executing their growth plan,” Grasinger said. “Once they have figured out where they need to go it’s a matter of implementing (their plan) into their operations. That can equate to some hiring, firing, or restructuring of their administrative and operational structure. External capital can be used to help you execute a growth strategy, whether that is from investment or just finding the right type of grant or credit that can be used to help execute the growth plan. ”
In 2015, Mountain BizWorks and their partners were selected as one of eight teams nationally to launch a new SBA ScaleUp America community. Today, there are 15 such communities across the country. ScaleUp WNC will provide intensive growth strategy development and implementation assistance to two cohorts of 15 small businesses annually through 2019.
