Passers by in Downtown Boone did a double-take a few weeks ago when longtime local establishment Murphy’s Pub was transformed into Ransom Pub & Cafe. An iconic destination on King Street for over 20-years, Murphy’s was sold to a private group of investors in March. The building Murphy’s occupied near the corner of King and Water Streets is owned by Wine to Water, an international charitable organization based in Boone, with a mission of combating the world’s water crisis. Doc Hendley, Founder & President of Wine to Water, appeared Thursday on Mind Your Business, a weekly radio program produced in partnership between the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce and High Country Radio.

Hendley spoke about the restructuring of restaurant space and how Ransom Pub & Cafe will further the mission of providing clean water in impoverished nations. Many staff members and menu items that allowed Murphy’s to cultivate regulars over the years have remained the same. The profits from Ransom Pub and Cafe will go directory toward Wine to Water’s efforts, giving the non-profit business a more stable stream of income to complement current charitable giving.

Ransom Pub & Cafe is located at 747 West King Street in the heart of Downtown Boone.
