With summer in full swing, more events are drawing increased numbers of visitors to the High Country. Successful events can be a magnet for the area in terms of tourism. However, highly traveled areas can be a fertile ground for creating new events that energize the overall tourism industry.

Wesley Barker of the West Jefferson Christmas in July Festival and Anna Gaugert of An Appalachian Summer Festival each discuss how their legacy events have evolved with increased interest from locals and visitors alike on this week’s Mind Your Business a weekly radio program produced in partnership between the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce and High Country Radio.

Christmas in July and An Appalachian Summer Festival each highlight what is a high volume month of July in terms of High Country tourism. While giving specific details about each of their events, both Barker and Gaugert speak to how the demographics and spending habits of today’s summer tourist has helped create new offerings within each of their festivals.
