The High Country of North Carolina is home to some of the most soothing natural resources you can find in the country. Those resources are now being utilized in a way to aid the brave men and women that fight to protect to home front.

Last year, the Boone-based We Can So You Can Foundation hosted Camp Healing Waters, an extended weekend designed to help transitioning military and their families to focus on reconstructing their family lives after service time is complete. The camp hosted nine families at Chetola Resort last summer and started the process of communication and understanding that allows for families to better reconnect. This year, the foundation is hoping to host two more camps in the High Country, with the first being held May 18th-21st. Jeremy Barnes, Chief Financial Officer of the We Can So You Can Foundation, discussed the camps and teased an upcoming fundraiser on this week’s Mind Your Business, a weekly radio program produced in partnership between the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce and High Country Radio.

The We Can So You Can Foundation is hosting a fundraising event Saturday, April 22nd, at 6pm at Camp Sky Ranch in Boone. A donation at the door covers the cost of admission, where patrons will find food, local beverages from Appalachian Mountain Brewery, live music, and a special live auction.

“We brought in nine couples (for last year’s camp) and the cost was right around $29,000,” said Barnes. “It’s not an easy bill but I think we bring the right people together. With CACI International coming on board as a sponsor that has helped bring us Alan Folger as our full-time Director of Veterans Services. With that we’ve been challenged to hold another camp in the fall so we are pushing to raise another $30,000 for that.”

Mind Your Business is a weekly production of the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce. The program highlights chamber members and allows for a deeper conversation about their history, impact on the community, and upcoming events. To hear your business featured on the program, contact David Jackson at
