Horn in the West has been the longest running attraction in Boone since tourism started bringing visitors to the area nearly seven decades ago. Daniel Boone Park, which plays host to the famous outdoor dram each summer, has seen renewed interest in hosting additional events over the last 18 months. Appalachian Mountain Brewery hosted Daniel Boone Rail Jam at the facility in Early 2017 and has plans to create a Haunted Horn in the West experience each Friday and Saturday night during the month of October. Danny Wilcox of AMB discussed the vision for the event on this episode of Mind Your Business, a weekly radio program produced in partnership between the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce and High Country Radio.
Unlike many haunted attractions, Wilcox says the Haunted Horn in the West experience will play off Boone’s Revolutionary War history. The theme of the entire adventure was built to work in concert with period-style cabins that make up a portion the Hickory Ridge Living History Museum. Each weekend will feature a different storyline and each evening will include age-appropriate programing for younger children until 8pm. Live music, local food, and craft beer will add to the experience each evening.
