Each year, An Appalachian Summer Festival welcomes over 27,000 attendees to its various events. From late June through early August, the signature series welcomes world-class talent on stage and in galleries, bringing an abundance of cultural arts experiences to our area. Anna Gaugert, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for the festival spoke about the event’s long-term impact in addition to the remainder of their 2017 calendar on Mind Your Business, a weekly radio program produced in partnership between the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce and High Country Radio.
Gaugert points to the initial idea for the festival being born in the spirit of economic development. With the number of seasonal residents in the High Country, Appalachian State University leadership sought a way to bring quality cultural arts programming to an audience that was attracted to such entertainment. The annual impact is easily seen in the support community around campus on event nights, with patrons visiting local restaurants and shopping in local retail stores while taking in shows and performances throughout the month.
